Planned Parenthood Welcomes New U.S. Guidance for HIV Prevention

Statement of Latanya Mapp Frett, Vice President – Global, PPFA:

“Planned Parenthood Federation of America welcomes the new guidance for HIV prevention released by the U.S. Office of the Global AIDS Coordinator. Evidence shows women, young people, and marginalized populations have the greatest need for preventive health care. By focusing on these groups, this guidance assures us that U.S. funding is being driven by science so that foreign assistance will reach those who need it most.”

Statement of Leslie Kantor, National Director of Education Initiatives, PPFA:

“This new guidance marks the end of the unsuccessful abstinence-only era of U.S. funding for HIV prevention overseas. Programs receiving U.S. support may now focus on evidence-based sex education that provides young people around the world with the medically accurate information and skills they need to protect themselves and remain healthy.”
